Orléans athlete makes national bobsleigh team

Last week, a handful of Canadian athletes had their dreams come true by officially being appointed to the national bobsleigh team. Among them, was Jean-Nicolas Carriere, former St. Matthew High School student and Rockland resident.

“Having been named to the National team has re-affirmed and also deeply strengthened my national pride for my country,” said Carriere, who has diligently blogged about his journey from the moment it began, back in Ottawa.

"I went from making the decision to try bobsledding just under a year ago, to moving to Calgary to train with the national team six months ago, and now here I am. I made it!"

For the 2012-2013 season, Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton has a delegation of 20 athletes who will participate in the World Cup in three sleds for males and two for women.

"Congratulations to the extraordinary athletes who were named today in the national bobsleigh team," said Marcel Aubut, president of the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC). "I know you will represent Canada with pride when you are competing against the world's best during this important pre-Olympic season."
